adidas’ Dia De Muertos Collection Features The Hyperturf In Looks Inspired By Mole And Pink Sugar Skulls

Over the last several years, some of the most prominent sneaker brands have released Da de Muertos collections with Halloween-themed capsules. For this year’s “Day of the Dead” celebration, adidas has envisioned their Hyperturf in two distinct styles: one inspired by mole, a typical Mexican sauce, and pink sugar skulls.

Past Three Stripes proposals for the cultural event included a variety of basketball designs including colorful skulls, flowers, and other motifs associated with the November 2 celebration. For its adidas Hyperturf, the German sportswear company – which, like NIKE, Inc., is focusing more on the Latinx market – drew inspiration from delicacies frequently prepared as “ofrendas” on altars for deceased loved ones. The mole-inspired design has “cazuela” brown mudguards, while the majority of the upper is executed in an unobtrusive black colorway. Embroidered on the heel is a butterfly, which is complemented with zigzag stitching around the profiles and tongue features.

In contrast, the “Vapour Pink” option encourages a uniform appearance. Accents scattered throughout the top, though, are a cream-colored hue that glows in the dark. Under the appropriate lighting circumstances, spiderweb, floral, and other classic “papel picado” motifs are illuminated throughout the adidas shoe. The rest of the Hyperturf retains the original trail-ready design that has earned it a go-to shoe for “gorpcore” enthusiasts.
