Tracy McGrady was the centrepiece of one of the decade’s most significant trades. In the 2004 off-season, the prep-to-pro perennial All-Star and former scoring champ was traded to the Rockets in exchange for Steve Francis (himself a three-time All-Star), and the Houston faithful immediately set their sights on one thing: the NBA Finals. T-Mac revitalised the franchise when he was paired with Yao Ming, leading the team to a 51-win season.
The season’s high point was not the Playoffs (they were swept in the first round). Rather than that, T-Mac staged arguably the greatest late-game comeback in NBA history by scoring 13 points in 33 seconds against the Spurs’ intra-state rivals. The majority of the home crowd had fled the arena in defeat, but McGrady had other plans – he simply could not miss.
This brand-new Scarlet/Core Black colorway of the T-MAC 2 ostensibly pays homage to McGrady’s time with the Rockets. The second model was released in 2003, just before he switched from the magical Royal/White to the red, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see this model coloured in Houston colours.
