Ye – formerly known as “Kanye West” – has had a whirlwind first 37 days leading up to 2022. And while the 44-year-old recently opened up about his familial struggles, let’s focus on adidas Yeezy (though we recognise this is the furthest thing from what the former “Mr. West” would like to discuss).
On February 6th, self-proclaimed “Motivational Speaker” Justin Laboy took to Instagram stories (@justinlaboy) to showcase a pair of the YZY BSKTBL KNIT that had previously been unseen. Although Laboy’s shots of the shoes were not the cleanest, #Respectfully, they revealed enough to conjure up mock-ups of the performance-oriented Yeezys. The Primeknit-based offering features a colorway reminiscent of the original Quantum, but breaks up the grey ensemble with a reflective finish across the majority of the forefoot that adds pops of blue and purple to the pair. The collar and sole unit retain their sock-like and semi-translucent appearances, respectively, while the latter features the same highly visible heel detailing that has prevented other Yeezy Basketball designs from being worn in the NBA.
As long as Ye continues to support Donda Academy, it’s very likely that he’ll enlist the assistance of some of the country’s top high school hoopers in introducing more performance-ready options on the court. For the time being, the Yeezy 500 is the preferred option for the majority of Donda Academy’s players, while Ye will continue to make his point through highly visible antics.
According to official Yeezy release dates, the Yeezy 350 v2 “Dazzling Blue” will release on February 26th.
