Since its inception in 2009, Nike’s N7 fund has awarded over $8 million in grants to over 270 Native American and indigenous communities. Their illustrious culture has also been elevated to a higher pedestal, with spotlights and platforms frequently comprised of the brand’s most beloved silhouettes.
The Nike N7 Collection may release its most daring collection yet in 2022, a selection that fits the “See Me, See Us” theme. And, like the Air Force 1 that debuted in late 2021, this newly revealed Free Trainer proudly wears its influences on its sleeve.
The design is reminiscent of traditional footwear in many ways, opting for a tan suede reminiscent of Moccasins. The matching, attached loops across the toe contribute to the handmade feel, which is further enhanced by the “Woven Cork.” This wraps from heel to lateral profile, adorned with strips of the sustainable material and blue and yellow webbing. Elsewhere, a thick, lightly patterned canvas forms the central portion of the upper, while the Free sole beneath adds to the shoe’s recycled materials.
While the shoe is primarily a nod to Native Americans and indigenous people, it appears to be partially inspired by the Swoosh’s 2005 “Considered” collection. Take a closer look at this Free Trainer inspired by Moccasins in the gallery below. While an official release date is still unknown, it shouldn’t be long before we hear something official.
