The notion of “Sole Swap” is by no means novel. Just four years before to the release of Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 1/97, shoe companies created a variety of hybrids by combining existing components. Converse Chuck 70s, Nike Air Force 1s, and adidas Superstars, to name a few, have had their bottoms removed and replaced with soles traditionally reserved for Goodyear Welted shoes, courtesy of repair companies such as recouture.
TAKAHIROMIYASHITA With their next collaboration with ASICS, TheSoloist, a label renowned for breaking convention, is going the exact opposite way. Together, they are recontextualizing the much-loved Chelsea Boot by adding the GEL-Quantum 360’s more cushioned sole. And if it weren’t for the ASICS logo along the collar, it would be difficult to tell that they were produced by the Japanese footwear company.
See below for a detailed examination of the TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist x ASICS Gel-Quantum 360. These are presently available from select stockists for $280 USD retail.
Additionally, a Todd Snyder New Balance 237 will arrive shortly.
