Victorinox and adidas, while European neighbours, have operated in vastly different industries since their founding in 1884 and 1949, respectively. However, the global institutions recently revealed a collaborative effort in the form of an EQT Support 93 sneaker that embodies their shared commitment to craftsmanship and heritage.
Although official images do not reveal a physical Swiss Army knife packaged with the shoes, the tool’s image appears throughout the collaboration. To begin, the design from the early 1990s is reimagined in the iconic red hue that has adorned Victorinox’s beloved pocket companions for decades. Co-branding throughout the shoe box and footwear stems from a friendship between Switzerland and Germany, with the former most prominently represented on the left shoe. While third-party materials such as CORDURA® and GORE-TEX membranes are not highlighted on the latest adidas EQT offering, the sneaker’s upper features a number of components that appear to increase the shoe’s durability over standard offerings. Three stripes on the profiles provide a highly visible, reflective finish, though they are interrupted on the medial side by Victorinox’s shield-like logo. Laces are also reimagined through the lens of military-inspired gear, as their toggle system enables the pair to be secured and unlocked quickly.
Stability structures around the heel also receive an upgrade, with the addition of a “abstract” pattern. As previously stated, the left shoe features a stronger emphasis on the Swiss company’s branding, with a graphic of the utilitarian muse brandishing the shoe’s inner contents. The medial sidewalls feature a leather carrying case large enough to conceal a Swiss Army knife, though official product images do not confirm that one is included with the collaboration’s purchase. Nonetheless, the fine-tuned offering will undoubtedly delight any collector, as it marks a watershed moment in the histories of two disparate partners.
