Nike’s upcoming Athletic Club collection aims to infuse its icons with retro attitude, reminding contemporary sneakerheads of the brand’s decades-old roots in sportswear. While the 97 is unmistakably from 1997, the Athletic Club as a whole seems to focus on Nike’s first decade in business, and something about this sunburst orange and yellow screams 1970s – possibly because we associate it with the various Roswell Rayguns releases.
This upcoming Air Max 97 features a classic suede construction with a mix of fiery oranges, lighter shades, and a bright yellow, while a clean white covers the midsole, tongue, and uppermost tracks of the 97 upper. The insoles feature the Athletic Club logo, while the tongue and outsole feature a retro blue tone. There’s a good chance we’ll see these in other Athletic Club releases, such as the Air Force 1 and Blazer Mid ’77, but we can’t be certain.
In other Air Max 97 news, Nike has announced the return of the Air Max 97 “Silver Bullet” to commemorate the model’s 25th anniversary.
